I have the honor to transmit a Copy of a letter from the Chief Justice dated the 17th instant and which reached me between 5 and 6 pm. that day.

His extraordinary interpretation of the Ordinance to which he refers coupled with such a wholesale use of the Power which he conceived to possessarrants when, far from there being any Pressure of business, the work of the Supreme Court has not been so light for many years, leads me to infer that the step he has taken on the eve of the Sessions had no other object but deliberately to create a complication which would prevent my holding any longer the appointment of
